Episode 158: The Last Chapter

Unlike another popular TV show of the time -- "The Fugitive" -- the "Dick Van Dyke Show" left the air not with a bang but a whimper. Except for brief scenes at beginning and end, the final episode consists solely of repeated scenes from three earlier episodes.

  1. I am thirteen and may not have much say in such an old and respected show, but I still have a voice. I agree that It went out in a whimper, but is that really all that bad. It was, and still is, the best show of all time. If it were to go out with a bang, the whole principle of the show would be gone. It was a soothing yet funny show. It showed that everything always turned out alright. This is why a calm sigh is, in my opinion, much better than a great big shout.

    2. I have to agree with you -- this show is the best. It goes to show that a unique idea with the best cast equals a show that will live forever.

  2. I never thought of it that way Sophie, but you're right! Going out with a big bang wouldn't have been right for a soothing show.

  3. Help me out (boy I hope you are still getting these comments)

There was an episode where they were writing and Sally or Rob says hey buddy we need a such and such joke what do you have in your trunk? Buddy then pulls out an imaginary trunk from under the coffee table and searches for it.

I think he might even say "there are no new jokes just new audiences" What episode was that???
